Bag Freshness & Storage

How Inukshuk packaging keeps nutrition locked in.

Freshness by Design

Every Inukshuk bag is hermetically sealed, not vacuum sealed. Each includes a one-way freshness valve that allows air to escape but never return. This design protects the food from oxygen, light, and moisture — the three biggest threats to fat quality and vitamin stability.
From our mill to your storage, that valve preserves potency, flavor, and shelf life without the need for artificial preservatives.

Why Bags Feel Different

Some bags arrive firm, others slightly puffy, both are normal. Pressure from stacked pallets during shipping pushes air out through the valve, leaving some bags dense and “brick-like.”
A puffier bag just means a bit more air remained after production. Either way, the seal is intact, and the food inside is protected.

The Bag Test: Checking Your Seal

  1. Press gently to push air out of the bag.

  2. If it flattens and stays flat, the valve is working and the seal is good.

  3. If it re-inflates or won’t release air, inspect for visible punctures before feeding.

A proper seal ensures your dog’s food remains safe, aromatic, and nutrient-rich.

Storage Tips for Open Bags

  • Cut a small opening for your scoop, fold, and clip tightly.

  • Push out excess air before resealing.

  • Store in a cool, dry, shaded area away from direct sunlight or humidity.

  • Avoid airtight containers for long-term storage, Inukshuk’s bag is designed to breathe safely.

  • For extended storage, portion and freeze.

Properly stored, an opened bag stays fresh for up to four months.

Quality You Can Trust

Our packaging process is part of the same fixed-formula system that keeps every batch identical. Each lot is tested for moisture, fat stability, and packaging integrity before it leaves our mill.
